Ruby Dawn starts out with a bang and keeps on going all the way to the end. Ruby (Dawn) McKinney, abandoned at eight years old in a bus station lay unconscious for two days in the hospital ICU ward. Waking up of no recollection of who she was, where she came from, she spent her young life in fosters homes then a detention center. That is where she met her protector and first love Tom Masters.  When Tom leaves the detention center not only does Ruby D lose the love of her life, her faith in God also diminishes. Ruby D is still roaming the streets but in a different way, running a medical clinic in the worst part of town, the slum district, taking care of runaways, street people and those with no money.

While delivering coats to some homeless men, Ruby comes across a shooting victim in the dark alley. As a nurse she knows he is close to death. That is when she discovers that it is Tom and his life has changed. He is now on the right side of the law and working undercover for the DEA. Now to get him to the hospital without letting on whom he is. The sting operation that he is working on not only concerns the gangs in the area but also Ruby’s clinic. Now  Ruby does not only have to put up with Tom back in her life, But a local police officer who would like nothing better to be more than friends with Ruby and a gang leader who is trying to infiltrate his gang to working in the clinic. What occurs next is utter chaos in Ruby’s life. Someone is framing Ruby in her drug orders, but whom? How much can she take before she eventually turns back to God?

This book was very hard to put down right from the very beginning. With a great cast of characters there were many that I thought was a suspect trying to sabotage Ruby’s clinic and name. I was surprised at the ending of who the leak really was.  The only part that I had a little trouble with was towards the end. When she rescues Tom for a change instead of him rescuing her reminded me more of a movie ending that was not quite believable, but then I know God works in mysterious way. Do not let this part deter you though as it is a excellent read.you are looking for a suspense fill book with a touch of romance that is Christian based then you will not want to miss this book. Even though it is in a series the book is a standalone-Recommended

I received this complimentary review copy from the publisher. The opinions expressed here are my own views of the novel.
